Episode 33: How to Fix Your Socks When They Go Wrong and a Review of 23cm Asymmetric Mini Circulars for Socks
It’s very socktacular this week with the return of the Sock Surgery. The show kicks off with a review of the 9.5″ (9″) / 23cm asymmetric circular needles from Kinki Amibari, kindly given for review by Rachel at www.tangled-yarn.co.uk. Clare will also be reviewing these on her blog in the near future. My verdict: quite good fun for knitting socks, very disco handbag friendly. If you want to be in with a chance to win a set of these, head over to the Ravelry group to enter!
Free the variegated skeins!
It’s the third Free Your Skeins Friday and this week it’s all about socks, probably due in no small part to having cast on two pairs of socks this week: one for the Sock Surgery and one to review a set of teeny tiny Kinki Amibari needles for the podcast. This week’s choice of the ‘Atlantic Current Socks’ by Melissa Sibley is an homage to all the variegated yarn in my stash.
The big day has finally arrived and it’s all about casting on our first pair of socks of the Year of Socks. I’m looking forward to having lots of lovely socks to revisit this time next year. New to sock knitting? Come in, there’ll be lots of hints and tips for you. Seasoned veteran? Clare will be choosing some slightly more piquant patterns for you to peruse. Everyone is welcome and it’s avery relaxed, join in and out as you like kind of knitty fun.

Banish your sock knitting woes and get some toasty toes!
If you’re a listener to the podcast, you’ll have heard our recent introduction of the bi-weekly Sock Surgery with Clare Devine of Yarn And Pointy Sticks Designs. Aided and abetted by our glamorous assistant, Kate, we’ll be chatting about knitting socks from the very beginning. We’ve already covered subjects such as how to choose yarn and needles, and in the next episode, out on Sunday, we’re getting to the exciting bit: casting on.
Bring in the Soap Box!
In a complete departure from usual proceedings, it gets a little ranty during the introduction, when a few choice things light the blue touch paper: Loose Women, Vax and Benedict Cumberbatch to be precise. Well, not Benedict Cumberbatch himself, he’s a good lad.
We’re all about enabling this week on the podcast. The latest knitty news is on the agenda, along with some world class enabling and the official announcement of the Sock Surgery Year of Socks.
Recent crafty-type exploits over Christmas have enjoyed a spot of proper whisky tasting. We tried Glenmorangie, Glen Moray – my local – Talisker Port Ruighe and Aberlour. We learnt all about colour, nosing, legs and adding water to whisky. I won’t be doing tasting on the podcast, but if you want to listen to someone who does know and like her whisky, go over to Caithness Craft Collective and listen to the ‘Drams’ section.
Hello and welcome to all new and returning listeners, especially those who came over from A Playful Day. Welcome to the show! It’s a yarn, comedy and sock knitting palooza this episode, as we review WTF Knits and welcome Clare and Kate for the Sock Surgery.
