Episode 91: Is that it?

Intro

I’ve had lots of happy messages this week, which is nice. First off, LJ is alive, arse and all, and managed to run the whole ruddy thing. Amongst my other lovely messages was one that particularly made me smile. It was from Lisa and made me realise that we need to relax and enjoy life. Let’s not take ourselves, or others, too seriously. Live like Westy. If you’re not sure what I mean, do as Lisa did and watch the below video. You will laugh, feel better and return to your knitting and correct your mistakes. Or watch Westy videos all night. Either way, you’re winning.

Episode 88: The Wool Kitchen – An Interview with Helen Reed

ep 88 promo

Intro

A short intro this week as the old croaky voice is threatening a return. This week I am thrilled to bring you the other half of my Best in Show EYF winning double act – Helen from The Wool Kitchen. She is from the wrong side of the Pennines but a good Northener nonetheless and is responsible for my breaking of the ‘no 4 ply purchasing’ self inflicted rule for EYF. Her love of colour gets me every time…

Interview

Helen follows the classic pattern of a knitter – her mum taught her all she knows! She was a knitter, mainly of scarves, until her first pregnancy, when she started to knit clothes for the impending arrival. It was during this time that she realised she could read patterns and immediately have the 3D image of what it could be. Her love of bright colours and her interest in how a piece of string can be manipulated into different patterns and paired with other colours is what fuelled her desire to dye. She is a self confessed geek.

There can be no escaping EYF chat this week, though there is no rubbing noses in it, I promise. Key points include attending the pub with some podcast Patrons – the benefits are endless folks, get involved. A big thank you to everyone who brought cards and gifts for me, it really blew me away. Special mention to Jenny, Kate and Hannah – a bee cake – Perfect! Still, it’s not a watch… I also thoroughly enjoyed hosting my session on Friday and will be doing a repeat on Thursday at 8. It is my first official webinar and if you’d like to be involved please sign up to the mailing list so I can send you the replay. There will be workshop notes available too. It is entitled ‘How to create a Content Calendar for your Blog or Podcast (and still have time to knit)’.

Join us for all the chat and bants in the Ravelry group. I also had a bit of a roadtrip this week and a little yarny gathering with Countess Ablaze, Lori from the USA and Larissa Travelknitter. Good times. I also provide you with a small geography lesson focussing on the differences between the Victorian North and New-Town Milton Keynes, as I see them.

This week I am back to something resembling my old bouncy self and am using this platform to impart wise words about not biting off more than you can chew and ‘caning it’. Oh and chatting very enthusiastically about Zoolander. Blue Steel! Zoolander KAL anyone?? It’s all a bit sing-songy this week too.

This weeks episode follows on from goal setting and includes what I pinky promise to knit this year. It’s all about embracing your stash, however disorganised, and the unbridled joy it brings. Maybe now is the time to actually get some of that yarny loveliness out of the box and get knitting. Check out Helen Stewart’s Curious Handmade podcast for more on Stash Appreciation.

Intro

This week I am delighted to bring Bev aka Boo Knits onto the show for an interview! After knitting her Out of Darkness pattern – known to listeners of the show as the ‘Shawl of Awesome’- I was keen to chat to her and hear about her journey into designing and what inspires her.

Interview

Bev’s journey into design was quite by accident, when she could not find the right pattern for a precious skein of Fyberspates Faery Wings, and decided to create her own. The first pattern was enthusiastically received and people began to ask when the next would be coming out. Her husband suggested this could be a good way to pay for her yarn, so she decided to pursue the opportunity.

A lover of high quality and hand dyed yarns, Bev advocates knitting only with what you truly love and paying the extra couple of pounds to have what you really want. In terms of dyers, Lichtfaden and Hedgehog Fibres are current favourites.

You can find Bev on Ravelry and be welcomed into the friendly and active Boo Knits group.

Giveaway

Bev has very kindly donated three prizes to a giveaway palooza: a complete pattern collection and two single patterns. In order to enter, pop over to the group on Ravelry and leave a comment saying which is your favourite Boo Knits pattern.

That’s all from me this week. As always, thank you for listening. Feedback is always appreciated, and you can email me or message me via Ravelry or social media. If you enjoyed listening today, please consider leaving an iTunes review, to help others find the podcast too. Happy crafting!
