Bring in the Soap Box!

In a complete departure from usual proceedings, it gets a little ranty during the introduction, when a few choice things light the blue touch paper: Loose Women, Vax and Benedict Cumberbatch to be precise. Well, not Benedict Cumberbatch himself, he’s a good lad.

There is quite a bit of musing on stereotypes, both from a feminist perspective and that of a knitter. There is no love lost for R&B music either. It gets a little random. Blame Louise Scollay for this one. It’s got some swearing in it, so not for small ears!

Enablers’ Corner

This is the birth of a new segment on the podcast, where we do all the enabling. I’m not just talking pushing the best yarns around, it will be a general section where we enable in all aspects of crafting, not just acquisition.

This week there is some more chat about how the #FreeYourSkeins2015 Project 365 is going and how it has affected my thought processes creatively. I’ve started #FreeYourSkeins2015 Friday on this blog, to pair up my own stash yarn with my favourite pattern of the week from The Golden Skein. Taking it one step further and actually going through the motions really helps to keep you looking for possibilities at every corner.

Check out the Stash Heap Challenge group on Ravelry for assistance in all aspects of stash management and curation. It’s a great, friendly group with oodles of tips in this department.

Finally, it’s time to consider knitwear for Edinburgh Yarn Festival. I may or may not have enabled a very informal knitalong of the Owls jumper by Kate Davies with the hashtag #owlsalong. This isn’t casting on for me as I am resurrecting that bird from hibernation. Wipping down.

Interview with Sarah Chy of Socks With Sarah and Knitting Sarah Fame

Our entrepreneur interview series continues, and I am thrilled to be joined by Sarah Chy of Knitting Sarah to talk about her experience of building an online community. Refreshingly down-to-earth, Sarah gives an honest account of the highs and lows of her journey, and her plans for what is next. Having just completed a year long kal called #sockswithsarah, straight off the back of the Merry knit along co-hosted by Martine of iMake in 2013, it’s time for a little change to #todayonmyneedles.

That’s all for this week. Please feel free to get in touch and let me know your feedback. If you particularly enjoyed the episode, why not consider leaving me an iTunes review? It helps other people find the podcast and shares the knitty love.

In Episode 31 we’ll be talking about casting on for the #SockSurgery – out on 18th January.
