The Golden Skein

Those of you who listen to the podcast, or follow me on Twitter, will be aware of the genesis of The Golden Skein (TGS). This is a specially commissioned, limited edition yarn club, which brings together dyers from around the world. TGS is run by my good self, and the lovely Kate of Kate’s Twirl blog. We are both big fans of hand dyed yarns and love to discover new dyers and fibres. With so many talented artisan dyers to choose from, searching for those elusive ‘Golden Skeins’ can be a big task. We do all of the hard work for you, so you can spend more time knitting!

The first club to be launched is called the Power of Three. In this club, we provide the same inspiration picture to three different dyers, for them to dye in their own unique style. We give them total creative freedom to dye exactly as they wish, which gives you as subscribers a real insight into their unique dyeing style. They also tell us a bit about themselves and their history, as well as how they chose to interpret the picture and why they used the techniques they did. This means you see the story of the yarn as it was made, and can also see, in our Ravelry group, how the other subscribers have chosen to continue that story with their choice of projects. In this club, subscribers receive 3 x 100g skeins per quarter, in a single shipment.

The Trial Club has just been completed. To give you an idea of what to expect, here is the inspiration picture:

If you want to be a part of The Golden Skein yarn clubs, sign-ups for the Power of Three club will open on 1 January at The Golden Skein website. Until then, why not pop over to the TGS group on Ravelry? It is a very chatty group and there are threads going for project ideas for the yarns from the Trial Club, which has just been running in order for us to test all our systems, prior to launch. It is a great was to keep up with developments. You can also follow TGS on Twitter and Facebook, or if you have further questions, drop us an email at

You don’t need to be a part of the club to join the Ravelry group. We also have members who have been stash diving and have chosen yarns they already owned, which matched the colours in the inspiration picture, and are now knitting and crocheting along with us. Everyone is welcome!
