Hello and welcome to Episode 16 of the Shinybees podcast. Thank you for joining me and a warm welcome to all new and returning listeners.

Welcome

In this episode, I muse over my new surroundings, particularly a few cultural stereotypes, namely Haggis and Irn Bru. For a distinctly healthier Bru, check out this pattern by Amana Collins aka Owl Print Panda.

This week we have a run down of some of the knitty news from the UK. First up is Unwind Brighton, which is taking place on 12-13 July in Brighton. There are lots of plans in formation for events leading up to the festival, possibly some KALs and prizes too. There will be a meet up on the Saturday around 1300. Please pipe up if you are planning to be there, I always love to meet listeners.

The next event will be further north in the mighty Edinburgh, where Jess of Ginger Twist Studios, in association with Kathy’s Knits and Be Inspired Fibres, are hosting the Indie Burgh Yarn Crawl on 21 June. This is sure to be a day not to be missed and there will even be an after party (woohoo!) Visiting the Edinburgh yarneries is highly recommended. There will be reviews of all 3 of the above-mentioned establishments over the coming episodes. More information can be found over at the Ginger Twist Studios blog.

KAL News

Louise Tilbrook is running a Spring KAL over on her Ravelry group. Very informal and relaxed, with prizes to be won! You can get all the information here. Check out her latest belting pattern, Beltane.

The Golden Skein

The latest instalment of The Golden Skein was dispatched on 1 Mar to rave reviews. The photo used was one of the winners of the RAF Photograph of the Year competition and is of a Tornado GR4 flying over London as part of the Queen’s Birthday Flypast in 2013.

The dyers for this quarter were DyeForYarn from Germany, who dyed a 55% merino, 45% baby camel singles blend at 480m to 100g, in the colour way ‘Tornado Over London‘. Check out LindaRose287’s ‘Hematite‘ cardigan by Lisa Mutch of Northbound Knitting here. Then we had Yarn Garden’s 50% Superwash merino, 50% silk ‘Manna Ash’ blend. ‘Mrs Wilmott’s Ghost‘ was the most popular of the three colour ways, and a perfect match for Lisa Mutch’s ‘Zilver‘ pattern, as shown by Louise Tilbrook. Finally, we had the sublime Hedgehog Fibres ‘Twist Sock’, an 80% Blue Faced Leicester, 20% Nylon sock yarn, in the colour way ‘Stark‘, shown off with great aplomb by Chrissie of the Stitched Together podcast in her 2014 Socks No 8 project.

You can see the inspiration posts for these dyers on The Golden Skein website.

Yarn Shop Review

The Yarn Shop review this time was of The Woolly Brew in Pittenweem.

Pattern Pick

This week the pattern pick was on the theme of ‘bunny’ and there are a few corkers amongst the 30 pages of patterns available, I can tell you, some of which did not make it into the pick for decency reasons!
You can see the full set of patterns, as well as all the previous pattern sets, over in my queue here.

Wrap Up

That’s all for this episode, hope you enjoyed it and look forward to speaking to you all again soon!
